I was surprised with Ghyll Scrambling for my hen do and I couldn’t have been happier! I laughed so much, and had an amazing time during the activity. Emma and Brian were incredible! Super friendly and made us feel so safe. Once we’d finished I got another surprise of homemade brownies, Prosecco and a chance to play with their cutie dog. Thank you, Emma and Brian, for an amazing morning canyoning! We went as a pair and were complete beginners, but they made us feel comfortable and confident from the start. They struck the perfect balance between keeping everything safe while still making the experience exciting and adventurous. Had a fantastic Ghyll Scrambling experience with Rocqua Adventures this past weekend. 4 in our group as part of a group of 8. A few ot us had done it before, and some newbies. Very well organised session, excellent equipement and in a beautiful location. Emma and Brian are brilliant guides, setting everyone ay ease and clearly explaining each and every obstacle as we went, along with some really interesting local information about the old mines and how the ghyll came to be. The scramble itself was brilliant fun, with lots of slides through the rocks and jumps in to deeper pools. It was an awesome afternoon, and I would recommend it to anyone. Absolutely brilliant morning ghyll scrambling with Emma. From arrival, we felt like we were in safe hands. We were a party of 7 - two adults and 5 kids between 10-15 and we loved it. Despite the initial shock of the coolness of the water, the wetsuits were great and the slides and jumps had enough variety to keep everyone confident but also challenged. Just back from a fantastic and memorable afternoon with Emma Ghyll Scrambling near Keswick. Emma was such a knowledgeable, friendly and fun guide. All 5 of us, myself, husband and 3 kids aged 14, 11 and 8 were grinning and laughing the whole adventure whether scrambling down waterfalls or totally submerged in beautiful mountain water! My wife, 20-year old daughter, 16-year old son and 51 year old me, all had a brilliant time Ghyll Scrambling.  Emma from Rocqua Adventures guided down the ravine skillfully,  showing us how to navigate the rocks and natural slides, and ensuring we were safe and most importantly, enjoying ourselves. Ghyll Scrambling & Paddle Boarding Adventure in Keswick

Enjoy two of the best outdoor activities in Keswick in one action-packed day. Start with a morning paddle boarding session on Derwentwater, before heading into the Newlands Valley for an afternoon of ghyll scrambling at Stoneycroft Ghyll. Our Ghyll Scrambling & Paddle Boarding Adventure combines two very different Lake District experiences into one unforgettable day.

Ghyll Scrambling & Paddle Boarding – Activity Details

• Start times available: Morning: 9am 
• Duration: Approximately 6+ hours (Depending on group size and ability)
• Ratio: Minimum of 2 person. Maximum of 4 persons (For larger groups please contact us for details)
• Minimum age: 10 years old (Under 18s must be supervised and accompanied on the activity by a paying parent/guardian)
• Weight limit: 18 stone maximum

Ghyll Scrambling & Paddle Boarding – Meeting Point & Parking:

EQUIPMENT PROVIDED:

• Wetsuit
• Helmet
• Buoyancy aid
• Paddle board and paddle
• A friendly instructor to guide you!

WHAT TO YOU NEED TO BRING WITH YOU:

• Your own transport to and from the activity sites (Keswick). Your instructor will meet you there
• Old trainers or boots with a hard sole and a high ankle support (Wetsuit shoes or boots are not appropriate for ghyll scrambling)
• Swimwear to go underneath your wetsuit
• A old pair of shorts to go over your wetsuit (For ghyll scrambling)
• Extra layers to keep you warm after your activity (i.e. Fleece woolly, hat, gloves, etc.)
• Towels
• Packed lunch and snacks or cash to buy some!
• Payment for car parking (National Trust car park for paddle boarding)
• Any medical items you may require (i.e. Inhaler, EpiPen, etc.). Please tell your instructor if you have any medical requirement before you start your activity

Please note: Only bring shoes and clothing for your activity that you don’t mind getting wet and/or dirty. We are not responsible for supplying these items of clothing, we will only supply the safety equipment listed above. As this activity takes place out in the countryside, there are no toilet facilities at this location.

GHYLL SCRAMBLING & PADDLE BOARDING – FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

DO I NEED EXPERIENCE IN GHYLL SCRAMBLING OR PADDLE BOARDING?

No previous experience is needed for either activity. Your instructor will provide all the guidance and instruction you need throughout the day, making this adventure suitable for complete beginners as well as those who have tried either activity before.

DO I NEED TO BE ABLE TO SWIM?

You don’t need to be a strong swimmer to take part. Buoyancy aids are provided and worn during the water-based activities, and your instructor will be with you throughout the experience.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE WEATHER OR WATER CONDITIONS ARE UNSUITABLE?

Safety always comes first. If strong winds affect paddle boarding or high water levels make ghyll scrambling unsuitable, we may offer an alternative activity, the option to reschedule, or a refund. We’ll always try to let you know as early as possible, although Lake District conditions can change quickly for better or worse.
