Fantastic time with Emma and Brian! As a group of friends we did the ghyll scrambling on Saturday and it was amazing! Slides, jumps and belly flops were the highlights! Emma and Brian were friendly, patient and made us feel safe! Topped off my action shots throughout perfect for Instagram pics! Extra touch of hot chocolate and homemade brownie really finished off the session! Highly recommend, we will be back!

Wow what a day We did the SUP and Ghyll Scrambling day and it was such a great adventure! Started off with the paddle boarding in the morning at Derwent water which was nice and chilled. Brian was super informative and gave us loads of local info about the surrounding fells and paddle boarding techniques. He kept it fun and engaging and was great to chat to as we boarded to an island in the lake. Afterwards we parted ways for an hour lunch break before meeting up at the start of the ghyll scrambling location. Then we scrambled! It was tons of fun, jumps, dives and slides. The ghyll has something for everyone, Brian gave us options to take a more daring options and jumps if we wanted to. Brian was great with us the whole way, lots of encouragement, support and keeping us safe. Overall we had such a great time, Brian thought of everything to make the experience great and even ended the day with homemade brownies and hot chocolate courtesy of Emma :) The meeting places were easy to find and the equipment list ahead of time was thorough. All wetsuits etc and safety equipment were all provided as well as a tent to change inbetween activities. He also took loads of photos and sent us them afterward which was amazing. Can’t recommend enough for anyone who’s up for trying something different. Thanks a lot! See you on the canyon scramble :) Ruby & Dean

I am so happy I chose this company, the experience was amazing, the instructor was so friendly and informative, the personal touches were so thoughtful for my daughters birthday. I wouldn’t even think of doing any of the experiences with any other company 5 stars from us. We will definitely be booking with Rocqua again. Thank you.

Wow! What an incredible morning we had on Sunday with Brian and Emma. Our first ghyll scrambling experience and it definitely didn't disappoint. Brian gave us a brief history of the area we were in before explaining how the morning would look. Brian and Emma both were encouraging but not pushy, communicating throughout the experience as to foot placement / positioning when sliding, or jumping, or going backwards, or belly-flopping :) They clearly know their stuff, love what they do and as a result - they work so well as a team. It was seamless! Thank you so much for the experience, it woke us up and served as a bit of reparative cold water therapy for our weary legs after a day walking prior to this!!! The brownies and hot chocolate were a welcome surprise and was a lovely touch (as was meeting your gorgeous poochie)! We would certainly come back to Rocqua for future experiences and would not hesitate to recommend :)
We had an amazing time at Rocqua Rock & Water Adventures and would definitely recommend it for anyone wanting an action packed day! Brian was very responsive to emails and it was easy to book the adventure day online. We did a combination of abseiling, climbing and ghyll scrambling. All the activities were very well planned, in amazing locations, and with Emma and Brian giving excellent safety and general advice throughout. This was part of a stag do and both Emma and Brian suggested some great “ extra fun” activities for the stag too!

Had an amazing time ghyll scrambling today. Emma and Brian were fantastic. They were knowledgeable about the area, super friendly and clearly very experienced adventurers. They very kindly treated us to a delicious home made brownie and hot chocolate to warm us up afterwards. We'd love to do it again some time and would highly recommend rocqua rock and water adventures to anyone seeking a bit of a thrill in The Lakes

Went on the Ghyll scramble with my daughter the other day. The water was too high for absylling. Brian was extremely helpful and informative and pleasant. One of the highlights in our month long trip to Great Britain!
Question: What is MORE daft than a 60-something year old woman who has not been climbing for 30 years deciding it is time to get back on the crags and starting with an abseil? Answer: Doing aforementioned abseil in the dark! Brian and Emma instilled confidence from the moment we met in the carpark. Equipment was carefully fitted, instructions were comprehensive but not so much that you forget half of it before even starting, and I had complete and absolute confidence in the ropes, the rigging and the fact that I was going to walk backwards off a ledge without being able to see where I was going. I had the opportunity to make multiple drops, each with less light than the one before, and on the final abseil Brian turned off the lights at the top, turned off our head torches & arm bands, and at the bottom Emma had shut off her lights too. I wish I had a photograph of the view as I stepped over the edge - all I could see as I looked up was a half-moon shining between a couple of trees above me, a few stars, and nothing else. Quite magical and not something you do every Monday evening! Once back at the vehicles the experience is not over until Emma has shared hot chocolate, the BEST BROWNIES EVER and a cuddle from Busta (who is probably the most gorgeous crag-dog ever!) Cannot wait to have the opportunity to spend time at the local climbing wall with them to see if this is something I am going to start up again. Huge thanks to both.

We did abseiling and Ghyll Scrambling for the day and it is one of the best experiences we have ever had! Emma and Brain are absolutely amazing people who run a brilliant company. They have thought of every aspect of safety, dignity, and respect whilst also maintaining loads of fun. Emma was even kind enough to bake us brownies (which were really good) and we were even offered hot chocolates after Ghyll scrambling. Brian was also great to contact annd speak with and was quick with reply’s, the whole process was really easy and he made sure we were able to get the activities in that we wanted. I cannot explain how amazing these two made our day and how much I would recommend them to everyone I know. I am even planning on bringing my best friend for her 18th birthday!! Thank you so much!!!

Unfortunately our planned water activities were cancelled due to the weather but Brian contacted us at the earliest opportunity to forewarn us of the situation and gave us multiple alternative options. We decided to book indoor climbing. Emma met us at the climbing centre and was fantastic, so welcoming and knowledgeable. She made my shy children really come out of their shell. She was very encouraging and gave them lots of opportunities to chose the walls they wanted instead of dictating. Would highly recommend.

Your ROCQUA guides

Rocqua is run by avid outdoor adventurers Brian Robinson, his wife Emma, helped of course, by Busta the dog (the real boss!)

Brian and Emma are seasoned professional outdoor activity instructors and have a combined work experience of over 30 years, both in the UK and Jersey. Busta the dog, who you may get to meet on some activities, is still learning the ropes, but he’s mostly there for treats and belly rubs!

Both Brian and Emma are passionate about their work, and enjoy taking people out of their comfort zones and showing them what they’re truly capable of when in the right hands – with a few laughs thrown in for added entertainment! Living just a stone’s throw from Keswick means they are never far from the action, and most of their days are spent in the water, rather than out of it!

Whether this is your first outdoor activity, or you’ve done this before and are back for another exhilarating ride, ROCQUA will be your guide to some of the best rock and water adventures you can have while staying in the Lake District.
