Looking for ghyll scrambling and canyoning in Keswick? Combine both adventures in one action-packed session at Stoneycroft Ghyll in the beautiful Newlands Valley. Start with our ghyll scrambling experience, taking on waterfalls, natural rock slides, jumps and pools, before continuing into the steeper canyon where you’ll abseil down waterfalls and tackle more challenging terrain. It’s the perfect choice if you want to experience both adventures in one unforgettable session.
GHYLL SCRAMBLING & CANYONING COMBO – ACTIVITY DETAILS:
- Start times available: Morning: 9am / Afternoon: 1pm
- Duration: Approximately 3-4 hours (Depending on group size and ability)
- Ratio: Minimum of 2 person. Maximum of 6 persons (For larger groups please contact us for details)
- Minimum age: 14 years old, Lower ages available for private bookings (Under 18s must be supervised and accompanied on the activity by a paying parent/guardian)
- Weight limit: 18 stone maximum

- Wetsuit
- Helmet
- Harness
- Buoyancy aid
- A friendly instructor to guide you!
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BRING WITH YOU:
- Your own transport to and from the activity site. Your instructor will meet you there
- Old trainers or boots with a hard sole and a high ankle support (Wetsuit shoes or boots are not appropriate)
- Swimwear to go underneath your wetsuit
- A old pair of shorts to go over your wetsuit
- Extra layers to keep you warm after your activity (i.e. Fleece woolly, hat, gloves, etc.)
- Towels
- Any medical items you may require (i.e. Inhaler, EpiPen, etc.). Please tell your instructor if you have any medical requirement before you start your activity
Please note:
Only bring shoes and clothing for your activity that you don’t mind getting wet and/or dirty. We are not responsible for supplying these items of clothing, we will only supply the safety equipment listed above. As is this activity takes place out in the countryside, there are no toilet facilities at this location

The combo lets you experience both adventures in one session. You’ll start with ghyll scrambling before continuing into the canyon, where the terrain becomes steeper and more committing and includes abseiling down waterfalls. DO I NEED PREVIOUS GHYLL SCRAMBLING OR CANYONING EXPERIENCE?
No previous experience is needed. Your instructor will provide all the instruction and guidance you need throughout the session. The adventure is suitable for beginners who are looking for a more challenging experience, as well as those who have tried similar activities before.
HOW CHALLENGING IS THE GHYLL SCRAMBLING & CANYONING COMBO?
The combo is more physically demanding and committing than our standard ghyll scrambling session. You’ll be moving over uneven terrain, descending waterfalls and taking on the canyon section using ropes and harnesses. A reasonable level of fitness and confidence around water is recommended, but your instructor will guide you throughout the adventure.
