I was surprised with Ghyll Scrambling for my hen do and I couldn’t have been happier! I laughed so much, and had an amazing time during the activity. Emma and Brian were incredible! Super friendly and made us feel so safe. Once we’d finished I got another surprise of homemade brownies, Prosecco and a chance to play with their cutie dog. Thank you, Emma and Brian, for an amazing morning canyoning! We went as a pair and were complete beginners, but they made us feel comfortable and confident from the start. They struck the perfect balance between keeping everything safe while still making the experience exciting and adventurous. Had a fantastic Ghyll Scrambling experience with Rocqua Adventures this past weekend. 4 in our group as part of a group of 8. A few ot us had done it before, and some newbies. Very well organised session, excellent equipement and in a beautiful location. Emma and Brian are brilliant guides, setting everyone ay ease and clearly explaining each and every obstacle as we went, along with some really interesting local information about the old mines and how the ghyll came to be. The scramble itself was brilliant fun, with lots of slides through the rocks and jumps in to deeper pools. It was an awesome afternoon, and I would recommend it to anyone. Absolutely brilliant morning ghyll scrambling with Emma. From arrival, we felt like we were in safe hands. We were a party of 7 - two adults and 5 kids between 10-15 and we loved it. Despite the initial shock of the coolness of the water, the wetsuits were great and the slides and jumps had enough variety to keep everyone confident but also challenged. Just back from a fantastic and memorable afternoon with Emma Ghyll Scrambling near Keswick. Emma was such a knowledgeable, friendly and fun guide. All 5 of us, myself, husband and 3 kids aged 14, 11 and 8 were grinning and laughing the whole adventure whether scrambling down waterfalls or totally submerged in beautiful mountain water! My wife, 20-year old daughter, 16-year old son and 51 year old me, all had a brilliant time Ghyll Scrambling.  Emma from Rocqua Adventures guided down the ravine skillfully,  showing us how to navigate the rocks and natural slides, and ensuring we were safe and most importantly, enjoying ourselves. Ghyll scrambling in Keswick is one of the most exciting ways to experience the Lake District. Set in the beautiful Newlands Valley, our adventure takes place in Stoneycroft Ghyll, where you’ll make your way down waterfalls, slide down natural rock slides and plunge into crystal-clear pools. Whether you’re a complete beginner or have previous experience, our experienced instructors will guide you through the ghyll for a fun, safe and unforgettable adventure.

Ghyll Scrambling in Keswick – Activity Details:

• Start times available: Morning: 9am / Afternoon: 1pm & 3.30pm (starting March)
• Duration: Approximately 2-3 hours (Depending on group size and ability)
• Ratio: Minimum of 2 person & Maximum of 12 (For larger groups please contact us for details)
• Minimum age: 8 years old, Lower ages available for private bookings (Under 18s must be supervised and accompanied on the activity by a paying parent/guardian)
• Weight limit: 18 stone maximum

Equipment Provided:

• Wetsuit
• Helmet
• Buoyancy aid
• A friendly instructor to guide you!

What you will need to bring with you:

• Your own transport to and from the activity site. Your instructor will meet you there
• Old trainers or boots with a hard sole and a high ankle support (Wetsuit shoes or boots are not appropriate)
• Swimwear to go underneath your wetsuit
• A old pair of shorts to go over your wetsuit
• Extra layers to keep you warm after your activity (e.g., Fleece woolly, hat, gloves, etc.)
• Towels
• Any medical items you may require (i.e. Inhaler, EpiPen, etc.). Please tell your instructor if you have any medical requirement before you start your activity

Please note: Only bring shoes and clothing for your activity that you don’t mind getting wet and/or dirty. We are not responsible for supplying these items of clothing, we will only supply the safety equipment listed above. Since this activity takes place in the countryside, there are no toilet facilities at this location.

Ghyll Scrambling in Keswick FAQs:

Can I watch if I’m not taking part?

Yes. Wou can walk up the track to the start point and watch the first few slides. After that, the route goes deeper into the ghyll so you won’t be able to see much of the activity as it continues through the gorge.

As the group moves through the session, you may catch sight of them again when they return along the valley, particularly near the main jump section, before they disappear back into the ghyll.

What should I wear for ghyll scrambling?

Please bring boots or old trainers with good ankle support and grip, swimwear for under your wetsuit (avoid cotton), old shorts to wear over your wetsuit, and warm loose-fitting clothes for afterwards. We provide wetsuits, helmets, and buoyancy aids.

How do I get to the ghyll scrambling location?

Please follow the exact location details we provide, either via the Google pin drop or the What3Words reference. Do not use a postcode for navigation, as it will not take you to the correct meeting point.

We strongly recommend setting your directions before you leave, as mobile signal can be limited in parts of the Lake District.
